Transformation Is...

Dax Moy

Well.. here's what it's NOT!

It's not a contest, a challenge or an event.

There's no such thing (from a neuroscience perspective) as a transformation 'contest'.

The reality is that most of our work as trainers has little to do with TRANSFORMATION and has everything to do with creating CHANGE.

What's the difference?

Change has a transient and often multi-directional quality to it. You change in one direction, then another, then 'backslide' etc and all the while you leave the areas of the brain that are concerned with prediction and response in a heightened state of threat that has them COMMANDING you to return things to 'normal' ASAP, regardless of whether your version of normal serves you or not.

You know when the brain is being threatened by the change because the person you're working with can't wait for your program to be over. They're counting down to when the diet and training plan ends and when they can 'get back to normal'.

When your 30, 60 or 90 day 'transformation challenge' is over they breathe a 'thank fuck for that!' sigh of relief and gravitate back toward the behaviours they had before the challenge began and so, of course, they gravitate back to the results they were getting before the challenge began.

Sounds familiar, right?

But Transformation (The capital T type to distinguish it from transformation contests) is VERY different!

For a start, it's not an opinion-based... thing. As in, it's not the same as just NAMING something a transformation program and so it is.

Transformation is a scientific reality. Something that happens in the BRAIN and is measurable, predictable and verifiable.

Transformation occurs when the basal ganglia takes up and automates a series of actions into a programmed, pre-verbal and predictable pattern of processes that occur without the need to consciously think about them.

Transformation then, is what most would call a 'habit' but goes way beyond the informal concepts that most trainers have of what it takes to create them.

It takes more than 300 repetitions, it takes more than 30 days and it takes more than 10,000hrs to create transformation.

No, not more time. Transformation isn't about time.

In fact, you can create Transformation in MINUTES if you can create more of the right combination of 'brain events' required to get the basal ganglia to take up the information required for the brain to alter its behavioural programs permanently.

But one thing's for certain... you'll NEVER create transformation in a person who's begging for the changes you're bringing into their lives to be over.

No matter how long you spend doing it. No matter how much they want the outcome. No matter how important the change. No matter how many times you've shown it to work for others. No matter how jaw-droppingly stunning the after pictures are.

Transformation simply doesn't, won't and CAN'T occur if the Basal Ganglia doesn't take up the behaviour as more important than the patterns and programs it was running before.

And in order for THAT to happen we need to learn how to 'feed' the Basal Ganglia what it most wants and NEEDS in order to do so.

If you're ready to STOP being an agent of CHANGE in your clients' lives and START being an agent of LASTING TRANSFORMATION then this might be for you.

We start unravelling the mysteries of the brain and behaviour on Monday and learning how Transformational science REALLY works...
